Grand evening of 16 August

To celebrate 16 August, the date of the Liberation of Thonon-les-Bains, come and watch an aerobatics show by the French Air Force, followed by a firework display from the lake. The evening continues with music and a popular dance!

On the program:
A spectacular air show by the Air and Space Force Aerobatic Team (EVAAE), followed by a grand fireworks display launched from Lake Geneva. To wrap up the evening, enjoy a popular dance at the Belvédère!

6:00 pm: Aerobatic show by the Air and Space Force
High above Thonon-les-Bains, the celebrations will soar. The Air and Space Force Aerobatic Team (EVAAE) will pay tribute to the Liberation of the town with a breathtaking aerial demonstration over Lake Geneva.

10:00 pm: Fireworks display
As night falls, all eyes will turn to the lake for a large-scale fireworks show launched from the Léman. This colorful pyrotechnic spectacle will light up the city and thrill the hearts of spectators.

10:30 pm: Popular dance
The evening continues with music in a setting overlooking the lake. After the fireworks, the festivities carry on at the Belvédère with the traditional popular dance — a wonderful moment of togetherness and celebration.

This date is no coincidence. On August 17, 1944, Thonon-les-Bains was liberated by the French Forces of the Interior, after a major Resistance operation across the department. Haute-Savoie thus became the first French territory to be freed by its own forces, right in the heart of the German-occupied zone. This evening is also an opportunity to pay tribute to the 17 Resistance fighters who fell during the battles for the town.
