The conseil du Léman
The Conseil du Léman is a cross-border cooperation entity bringing together the French départements of Ain and Haute-Savoie and the Swiss cantons of Vaud, Valais and Geneva. Created in 1987, it has been certified by both the French and Swiss governments.
This cross-border entity handles questions relating to transport, cross-border workers, local development and environment, the economy, tourism, sport and culture. To ensure effective and pragmatic cooperation, the Conseil du Léman calls on five permanent commissions:
- Economy and Tourism
- Local Development and the Environment
- Education and Culture
- Cross-border Populations and Social Questions
- Transport and Communication
The Conseil du Léman is attentive to the needs of the region’s socio-economic stakeholders in coordination with the chambers of commerce, agriculture, crafts and trades in the five member bodies.
The work of Léman sans Frontière also enjoys direct support from the cantons of Geneva, Vaud, Valais and Fribourg as well as the départements of Ain and Haute-Savoie.
