Fondation de Léman Sans Frontière
1995–2025: 30 years of a visionary idea

In 1995, the heads of the Bouveret and Moléson tourist offices brought together several tourist sites in the Lake Geneva region around an innovative idea: to encourage visitors to travel between the lake and the mountains. Yvoire, Nyon and CGN exemplified this dynamic by forming commercial partnerships to share and retain their customer bases.

At a time when cross-border cooperation was still in its infancy, these projects were based on a simple but visionary intuition: by recommending each other, the sites could extend the length of stays, diversify their offerings and enhance the attractiveness of the region.

Thirty years later, Léman sans Frontière (LSF) has become a unique model in Europe: the only cross-border tourism association bringing together cultural, heritage and leisure institutions on both sides of Lake Geneva.

The only network of cross-border tourist sites in Europe

Today, LSF brings together 31 major tourist sites spread across:
4 Swiss cantons: Vaud, Valais, Geneva, Fribourg
3 French departments: Ain, Jura, Haute-Savoie

Spanning an area of 10,000 km², between 300 and 3,000 metres above sea level, the LSF network covers an area stretching from the meandering Rhône river to the summit of Les Diablerets. This geographical diversity makes it an exceptional tourist destination, combining plains, lakes and mountains.

The network’s 31 partners reflect this richness:
• 11 leisure parks and zoos
• 5 castles and fortresses
• 10 museums
• 1 shipping company
• 4 tourist train lines and panoramic mountain sites

Spread across two countries and seven administrative regions, these members consist of:
• 21 Swiss partners
• 8 French partners
• 2 truly Franco-Swiss sites, symbols of the association’s cross-border vocation.

Together, they offer a range of experiences from cultural discovery to outdoor adventure, family leisure activities and contemplation of alpine and lake landscapes.

The association

In accordance with the objectives set out in its charter and concept, the association continues to develop through its numerous joint initiatives. Its aim is to promote the rich heritage of the Lake Geneva region, the neighbouring Alps and Gruyère through a dynamic approach and customer exchange, which takes the form of:

the publication of an annual guide distributed at all selected partner sites, tourist offices and numerous hotels, guesthouses and other relevant establishments.
the implementation of specific welcome and information initiatives, encouraging locals and holidaymakers to make the most of their leisure time and holidays.
the development and promotion of a Franco-Swiss tourist offer (excursions and stays).
In 2025, 31 sites are members of the Franco-Swiss tourist association ‘Léman sans Frontière’. They pay an annual membership fee. More than 80% of the budget is invested in promotion.

A professional and innovative platform

Over the years, LSF has established itself as much more than a tourism promotion tool.
It is a platform for exchanges between professionals, where synergies, joint marketing actions and the sharing of expertise are developed.
It is also a laboratory for digital innovation:
-> 2003: introduction of the PDA or V-Guide, a mobile and interactive tourist information system.
-> 2011: launch of the first cross-border online ticket office for booking combined packages.
-> 2019: development of the Mobi-Léman app, offering 19 Franco-Swiss themed itineraries and promoting the use of public transport and soft mobility.
By adapting to new visitor expectations (fluidity, digitalisation, sustainability), LSF has managed to stay ahead of the curve and remain relevant.
The Léman sans Frontière association invites its members to two General Meetings each year. A Committee meets 6 to 8 times a year and is representative of the diversity of the partners. Its objective is to ensure the smooth running of the association.

The Presidency of Léman sans Frontière alternates between a representative from a Swiss site and a representative from a French site.
